In 2002, Indivior Inc. received approval to market Suboxone tablets for use in the treatment of opioid addiction and dependence. At that time, Indivior Inc. was an RB Group subsidiary known as Reckitt Benckiser Pharmaceuticals Inc. In December 2014, RB Group spun off Indivior Inc., and the two companies are no longer affiliated. Thereafter, Indivior Inc. became a subsidiary of Indivior plc. On April 9, 2019, a federal grand jury sitting in Abingdon, Virginia, indicted Indivior Inc. and Indivior plc for allegedly engaging in an illicit nationwide scheme to increase prescriptions of Suboxone.

This court also hears cases where the plaintiff is seeking return of personal property valued up to $5,000. In Virginia, these cases are heard in the General District Court.

The Virginia Creeper Trail is a recreational trail (rails to trails) located in Southwest Virginia (SWVA). The Virginia Creeper stretches 34 miles from Abingdon, Virginia down through to the lovely town of Damascus, Va (known as the Heart of the Va Creeper) along the Whitetop Laurel River and up to its highest point Whitetop Station near the NC State Line at Whitetop, Virginia. The Va Creeper Trail is open year round for trail runs, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. This former rail bed passes through the Mount Rogers National Recreation area and the highland country of southwest Virginia. The Virginia Creeper Trail is rich in beauty and regional history. This is an easy biking adventure that you, your friends, and family will talk about for a long time. Start at one of the Creeper Trails bike shops in Damascus for a bike rental and shuttle services to the top and take a leisurely ride downhill 17 miles to town. On this section of the trail (Whitetop to Damascus) you will ride your rental bike from Whitetop Station down to historic Green Cove Station. Then travel through the Jefferson National Forest to the community of Taylors Valley along the Laurel River (watch out for the trout in the stream) back to Damascus. Then grab a bite at one of our tasty local restaurants, pick up a few t-shirts and souvenirs, and spend the night in one of our towns comfy beds. You will love it here!
While the days of bartering produce for admission may be over, every June, the theatre continues the tradition where (for at least one show) people can gain entrance by donating food to Feeding America Southwest Virginia.
This is one of my favorite bike trails pretty much anywhere in the world. Named after a steam engine that crawled up the mountains like Virginia Creeper (a plant), the trail begins in Abingdon.
It takes place every Saturday and the hours vary throughout the year. There is even a special holiday market that takes place from the end of November until right before Christmas (and it goes on all weekend).
You can see artifacts there that were left behind after being used at the Battle of Kings Mountain. The Keller Interpretive Center is located on the grounds is the technical name of the museum.
There are many places to visit near Abingdon and can be combined with a weekend trip from Charlotte or other places. Here is a list of some of my favorites in southwestern Virginia that make for fantastic day trips from Abingdon.
Actors were kept very busy, even when they did not have parts in current plays. They contributed to the theatre's overall success by working on scenery, collecting props, directing and working in the cafeteria at the Barter Inn, where members of the troupe boarded.[7]
While remaining based in Abingdon, Barter Theatre has presented plays over a broad geographical area. A September 1939 trip took the group to New York City, performing at the Heckscher Theater. On three nights the troupe presented Lady Baltimore, Everywhere I Roam, and "a mountain version of Romeo and Juliet".[9] In 1949, one of its companies produced Hamlet in Elsinore, Denmark. That same year it had a touring company that did one-night stands in localities in Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and North Carolina.[7]
Starting in 2020, the theatre has been producing plays and staging them at the Moonlite Theatre.[21] Plays are performed on a stage while being simultaneously projected on the big screen. Seating in cars allows for social distancing and audio is provided through car radios.[22] This was begun to allow staging of plays with coronavirus precautions in place and plays were produced there from July 2020 through December 2021.[23] Indoor performances resumed at Gilliam Stage in September 2021, with protocols in place to keep actors, staff, crew, and audience as safe as possible during the ongoing pandemic.[23]
